Waldorf Grade Section
at our Somanahalli campus
For a child between the change of teeth and puberty, the focus shifts to nurturing their emotional life through the loving authority of the teacher. The curriculum follows a threefold teaching approach—Willing, Feeling, and Thinking—that nurtures the whole human being. Joy in learning academic subjects is experienced through intense artistic activities such as knitting, painting, gardening, music, movement, speech & drama and games.
Waldorf education places significant importance on cultivating strong teacher-student relationships. The daily timetable features an extended Main Lesson, typically lasting upto 90 minutes and focusing on a specific subject or topic such as Mathematics or English. Following this are subject lessons, each lasting for about 40 minutes, covering subjects like Hindi, Kannada, Handwork, Eurythmy, Music, Movement, and Games.
During this crucial stage the educational emphasis shifts towards nurturing the emotional life of the student, achieved through the compassionate guidance of the teacher. The curriculum is structured around a three-fold teaching method encompassing the realms of willing, feeling and thinking, designed to foster the holistic development of the individual child. Waldorf Education presents a curriculum that is tailored to the developmental stage of each child, blending academics with arts in an experiential and age-appropriate manner. This approach fosters creativity, critical thinking and a lifelong passion for learning.
The curriculum covers a wide range of subjects including literacy, numeracy, sciences, history, geography, music, fine arts and practical skills. Rather than being mere topics for study and examination, subjects such as music, movement, theatre, writing, literature, legends and myths are lived and experienced by Waldorf students. Through these immersive experiences, students develop their intellectual, emotional capacities, physical, and spiritual capacities, enabling them to confidently navigate their paths and contribute meaningfully to society.
Central to Waldorf education is the cultivation of a strong bond between teachers and the taught. Ideally, teachers remain with the same class from Grades 1 to 8, fostering continuity and a deep understanding of each student's individual needs. Waldorf teachers aspire to instil a sense of wonder in their students, encouraging them to perceive the world as a place of goodness, beauty & truth even in its simplest forms. The aim is to inspire students to approach life with enthusiasm, initiative and purpose. Achieving these goals involves providing an education rich in sensory experiences and artistic beauty across all academic subjects.
